Coalface Art Gallery

The “Coalface Gallery” is in the Belyando Shire Moranbah building and operates council hours from 8.30am to 5pm weekdays (and most market days). Anyone wishing to display arts and crafts work or other exhibitions in the gallery can do so at the council reception where there is a list of those displays currently booked in. You can also contact Lynley Paine, (ph49417060) who oversees the gallery on behalf of the council.

It is a big space to fill so sometimes it is better to team up with some other people to book a slot. Small displays can also be put out at the same time as something already booked in, so ring Lynley to discuss options. We prefer exhibitions are up for at least a month so people get a good chance to see them. Plenty of warning of cancellations is needed as it isn’t always easy to find a replacement at short notice and an empty gallery is not a great look!

Current bookings are:

  • 16th July-17th Aug Arts Council’s “Hoon”
  • 20th Aug – 13th Sept – recent cancellation – an urgent booking welcomed!!!!
  • 13th Sept – 12th Oct Moranbah State High School’s annual ‘arts’ display
  • 15th Oct – 23rd Nov Gentle Craft Club “Round Robin Quilts” and display.

The African Children's Choir will perform in the Moranbah Town Square on Wednesday 18th July at 7.30pm. Pre-Show entertainment and refreshments start from 6:30pm. Tickets are free.

What’s Been Happening

Wow what a year of wonderful events so far.

The X-Collective show "Pick a Box" was another success with a wide variety of music to cover all tastes. You haven't lived untill you've seen "Staying Alive" (by the Bee Gee's) performed in the style of "Bollywood"!

We have had two very productive workshops which have taken place at the Moranbah State Preschool which has been a wonderful creative area to spread out and make the back drops for the African children’s Choir. Jill Nixon has been amazing and come up with some great African based ideas with Wanda Bennett (textile artist and teacher).
We couldn't’t have done this without the support of the
following local people:

  • Jill Nixon, Wanda Bennett, Fiona & Ross Branch, Eva Davis, Deb Moloney, Barb Giles, Anne O’Leary, Lynnie Busk & Granddaughter, Marg Laughton, Natascha & Bob Grieve, Sonia Widderick & The Anglican Church

We couldn't, have done anything at all without the following funding and support from:

  • BHPBilliton, Belyando Shire Council, BMA, Queensland Arts Council, Australian Government Australia Council For The Arts and the Moranbah State School.
